Meet the Doctor

Dr. Courtney Byrd

Drawn to healthcare from a young age, Dr. Courtney Byrd found her calling in dentistry—a perfect blend of science and art. Her passion for working with children made pediatric dentistry a natural choice, and she has spent over a decade providing compassionate dental care to pediatric and special needs patients.

Dr. Byrd earned her BS in Biology with a Minor in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Meharry Medical College. She is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, and NC Dental Society.

Dr. David Moore, DDS, MS, Diplomate

Dr. David Moore believes every person deserves access to quality dental care—a principle that led him to organize five dental mission trips to Arequipa, Peru, Charlotte's sister city. For over 25 years, he has dedicated his career to promoting healthy lifestyles and improving smiles for children and those with special needs across the Charlotte region.

Dr. Moore earned his BA in Chemistry and Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by his MS with a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Pediatric Dentistry from Ohio State University. A former Lieutenant in the Navy Dental Corps and Adjunct Professor at UNC School of Dentistry's Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Moore is a Diplomate of The American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and has held leadership roles including Former President of the NC Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and Former Board Member for the Southeast Society of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Shivani Desai

Dr. Shivani Desai is passionate about being part of her community and making a lasting impact on children's dental health from their first tooth through high school graduation. She believes that building strong relationships with her patients is essential to creating a comfortable, less intimidating dental experience.

Dr. Desai earned her BS in Biology with a Minor in Psychology from The College of William & Mary, her MS in Physiology and Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, and her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from St. Christopher's Hospital for Children of Philadelphia. She is a Diplomate of The American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and American Laser Study Club.

Dr. Kayla Kopczynski

Born and raised in Charlotte, Dr. Kayla Kopczynski is Tar Heel through and through, having completed both her undergraduate studies and dental school at UNC Chapel Hill. She most recently completed her specialty training in pediatric dentistry at The Ohio State University and Nationwide Children's Hospital, earning her MS in Dentistry and Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry.

Now back home in Charlotte, Dr. Kopczynski is thrilled to provide care for children at the very practice that inspired her to become a pediatric dentist. She is a Diplomate of The American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and North Carolina Dental Society, and has been published in the Journal of American Dental Association.

What to expect at your child's first visit
